The Chicago White Sox have acquired All-Star third baseman Todd Frazier from the Cincinnati Reds in a three-way deal that also includes the Los Angeles Dodgers.
CBS Sports confirmed the trade and said that the Sox get Frazier and the Dodgers are getting right-hander Frankie Montas, infielder Micah Johnson and outfielder Trayce Thompson out of the deal. As for the Reds, the team is getting INF/OF Jose Peraza, outfielder Scott Schebler and infielder Brandon Dixon from the Dodgers.
Heading to LA for Thompson means being a little closer to his brother Klay Thompson, who plays for the Golden State Warriors and in the same city as his father Mychal Thompson, who played in the NBA and is now a sports talk radio host in Los Angeles.
The 29-year-old Frazier meanwhile will fill the void of a power hitter that Chicago needs in its lineup. He is a two-time All-Star who batted .255 with 35 home runs, 89 RBIs and a .498 slugging percentage last season. He is due $7.5 million in next year and eligible for arbitration next off-season.
