Florida quarterback Will Grier will transfer to another school, the school announced on Saturday.

On Monday, Grier was suspended for one year after testing positive for performance enhancing drugs. He appealed the suspension but it was upheld. Grier would be able to play again next October, but sources told FightinGators.com that Grier was going to transfer to another program, according to Scout.com, which first reported the news. Florida can denote any school in which Grier can't transfer to without having a two-year penalty. If he transfers to a school not on that list then he wouldn't be eligble to play until the 2017 season.

"Will came to me about exploring his options to transfer. We will support him and help him in any way we can," Florida coach Jim McElwain said. "This has been very difficult on him and obviously he is looking for a fresh start. We will always be there for him as will all Gators."

Grier is a freshman and he won the starting quarterback job. He completed 65.8 percent of his passes for 1,204 yards, ten touchdowns, and had three interceptions before his suspension, according to Yahoo Sports. Treon Harris became Florida’s quarterback after Grier was suspended. With Harris as the quarterback Florida won the SEC East but lost the SEC title game to Alabama.

Florida will play Michigan in the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl on January 1.
