Will Smith is clearing up his statements about having political ambitions, saying in a new interview that he was only joking around.

As we previously reported, Smith said in an interview late last month that he was so “incensed’ by the political landscape that he would want to get into politics sometime in the “near future.”

Smith told ET, “I was really kind of joking when I said that.”

He did admit to getting “inspired” politically by Dr. Bennet Omalu, whom he portrays in Concussion.

“Dr. Omalu has such a positive view of America and the American dream,” he said. “As an actor, being able to be a part of that and to feel from the outsider’s perspective how great this country is, I sort of got inspired as I was looking at the current political landscape. I was inspired to defend the ideals that help build such a beautiful country.”
