The Wasp is the newest female superhero to join the Marvel universe, and according to the writer of Ant-Man, she could get her own movie at some point.
When asked by IGN if The Wasp could receive a standalone movie, screenwriter Adam McKay said that it's definitely a possibility.
“Possibly. I think it all depends on this sequel and how the character plays," he said. "Certainly there’s a lot of female superheroes in the Marvel universe so I’m sure you’re going to see them start to spread out...I don’t know, that’d be very interesting."
We're already going to be getting a lot more of The Wasp very soon seeing as Marvel has announced the sequel will be titled Ant-Man and the Wasp, as we previously reported. Director Peyton Reed said their relationship will be the first real partnership in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In terms of his involvement with Ant-Man and the Wasp, McKay said that he'll work on the movie if Marvel needs him, but no deal is officially in place at this time. The sequel will be directed by Reed. The Wasp will be played by Evangeline Lilly, while Paul Rudd returns as Ant-Man.
Ant-Man and the Wasp hits theaters on July 5, 2018.
