Riverdale, a pilot that re-envisions the world of Archie Comics in the modern day, has been ordered from The CW.
The pilot, which counts Arrow and The Flash producer Greg Berlanti as one of its executive producers, was originally set up at Fox. It will include modern versions of all our favorite characters, including Archie, Betty, Veronica and Jughead. According to Entertainment Weekly, the pitch teases some “darkness and weirdness” in Riverdale, so it won’t all be happy times.
Riverdale moved over to The CW in July 2015. The other EPs on the show are Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Supergirl); Sarah Schechter (Arrow, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow); and Archie Comics’ Jon Goldwater. It is a Warner Bros. TV production with Berlanti Productions.
On Jan. 29, The CW ordered five more pilots: Untitled Mars Project (about travelers to Mars who discover that their predecessors have vanished); Transylvania (an 1880s-set police procedural that explores famous villains); Untitled Paranormal Project (stars a young woman who experiences a paranormal phenomenon); Frequency (based on the 2000 movie of the same name); and No Tomorrow (about a straight-arrow woman who falls in love with a man who thinks the apocalypse is coming).
