Brooke Shields appeared on Jenny McCarthy’s SiriusXM radio show on Thursday, where she discussed her 2005 feud with Tom Cruise about her endorsement of prescription medication for her postpartum depression. Cruise’s controversial religion, Scientology, has a firm stance against medication and psychiatry.
During the uncomfortable sit-down with Matt Lauer on the Today Show, Cruise called Shields’ prescription medication use “irresponsible.”
Shields told McCarthy Cruise came over the her home after the interview aired, in order to apologize personally. She said she had no issue with accepting it.
“Life is too short,” she explained. “I’m sure there are people that have strong, negative opinions about me, but I don’t have the time.”
Shields raised eyebrows when she attended Cruise and Katie Holmes’ wedding in Italy a year later and she explained how Holmes reached out to her with an invitation.
“She said, ’It just wouldn’t feel right without you there,’” Shields said. “And I said ‘OK, I’ll bring the something old, as long as it’s not me!’ And she said, ‘would you?’”
The actress went on to explain, “People were so up in arms about my saying yes. And I said, ‘First of all, if you get invited to that wedding, you go.’ And I had no malice in my heart. It was still a wedding.”
