It appears that it could be the end of an era for star wide receiver Calvin Johnson, who has been the ultimate playmaker for one organization over the past nine years.
ESPN reported Sunday that sources have said that Johnson told his family, close friends, some teammates and Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell that this 2015 season would be his last in the NFL.
The sources also revealed that while the Lions seem to be holding out hope that the star wideout will change his mind and play next season, Megatron seems pretty set on retiring.
The receiver is just 30 years old, which seems like a young age to walk away from the game he loves, but he has been plagued by an ankle injury and body soreness in recent years. If he does indeed retire he will actually owe the team money and need to pay back $3.2 million of a previously-paid signing bonus.
Whether or not Johnson has played his last game he will certainly go down in history as one of the best to ever play for the Lions organization. In just under a decade he complied 11,619 yards with 83 touchdowns and made the Pro Bowl five times.
