Channing Tatum's X-Men spinoff Gambit is finally entering production.
According to WGNO, Gambit will begin filming in New Orleans this March. This is great news for Tatum fans, as for a while it was actually unclear if the movie would still happen at all.
Last summer, there were reports that the actor was dropping out of the project, and then a few months later, the film lost its director, Rupert Wyatt. After a few months of uncertainty, though, Doug Liman was hired, and now things appear to be back on track.
This all means that the film is unlikely to make its October 2017 release date, so the announcement of a delay to 2017 seems inevitable at this point.
Taking place in the same universe as X-Men and Deadpool, Gambit stars Channing Tatum as a mutant who can manipulate kinetic energy and who is known for his card-throwing. Producer Simon Kinberg recently said that while the X-Men movies are operatic and Deadpool is irreverent, Gambit will be a heist movie and a "sexy thriller."
