A sequel to the hit Rocky spinoff Creed now has an expected release date.
According to Variety, MGM hopes to release the next Creed movie in November 2017. That's just two years after the original, which came out on November 25, 2015.
MGM CEO Gary Barber noted that this 2017 date definitely isn't set in stone, but it's the studio's current goal.
In terms of plot, Sylvester Stallone has said the new movie could actually feature some more of Carl Weathers in the role of Apollo Creed.
"Ryan has some ideas of going forward and backward and actually seeing Rocky and Apollo together,” Stallone said. “Think of The Godfather 2. That’s what he was thinking of, which was kind of ambitious.”
He's referring to director Ryan Coogler there, although with this schedule, it seems unlikely that he will return. Coogler is set to direct Black Panther for Marvel, and so Stallone has since implied Coogler might simply be an executive producer on Creed 2.
Creed has been a huge success both at the box office and amongst critics. The film earned Sylvester Stallone a Golden Globe win for best supporting actor.
