Disney's Star Wars spinoff featuring a young Han Solo hits theaters in 2018, and the studio now has a shortlist of potential actors.
Variety has revealed the group of performers Disney is looking at, the majority of whom are between the ages of 20 and 25. The list includes Miles Teller (Whiplash), Scott Eastwood (The Longest Ride), Ansel Elgort (The Fault in Our Stars), Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age of Extinction), Dave Franco (Neighbors), Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson & the Olympians), Emory Cohen (Brooklyn) and Blake Jenner (Glee).
As previously reported, that Disney was auditioning over 2,500 actors for the part of Han Solo, so they have obviously made some significant progress since then. It's also interesting that that majority of these actors are relatively famous, whereas with The Force Awakens, Disney intentionally chose the virtually unknown Daisy Ridley for the lead.
Another juicy detail coming out of this report is that we could get a look at the new Han Solo much earlier than 2018. Variety suggests that Disney is expected to reach a casting decision in the next few weeks, and the reason they're deciding so soon is because Han Solo will have a cameo in Rogue One.
What we do know for certain, though, is that the Han Solo spinoff will begin production next January. The film will be directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller (21 Jump Street, The Lego Movie), and it hits theaters on May 25, 2018.
