Free agent pitcher Doug Fister signed with the Houston Astros on Thursday.

According to MLB.com, Fister signed a one-year, $7 million deal that includes performance bonuses. With performance bonuses the deal could be worth as much as $12 million.

Fister’s signing gives the Astros 61 players for spring training, including 39 players on the 40-man roster.

Fister spent the last two seasons with the Washington Nationals. In 2014, he was 16-6 with a 2.41 ERA and finished eighth in the National League CY Young award voting. He struggled a little bit last year, going 5-7 with a 4.19 ERA, according to the Associated Press.

The pitcher is 65-63 with a 3.42 ERA in seven seasons in the majors. He has a career ERA of 2.60 in the playoffs and his 1.77 walks per-nine innings is the lowest among active pitchers with 1,000 or more innings pitched.

Fister will add depth to the Astro’s rotation, which includes Dallas Keuchel, Collin McHugh, Lance McCullers, Mike Fiers, and Scott Feldman.
