A Facebook video that has gone viral shows an incredible act of kindness by a New York subway rider. The man saw another man shivering and not even wearing a shirt, so he gave the man a shirt off his back and his hat.
The video was posted on Facebook by Lazaro Nolasco on Jan. 8 and has been seen over 13.7 million times since then.
Nolasco explained to the New York Daily News on Sunday that he and his girlfriend got on the train at Washington Heights when they saw the incident on Friday. He said that he saw the man sitting on the subway without a shirt on and looked sick.
After getting on the train, they saw another man approach the shirtless man. The good Samaritan took off the shirt he had over his sleeveless undershirt and gave it to the other man. He told the other man to go to a hospital.
The Daily News later caught up with the good Samaritan, whose name is Joey Resto, 23.
“It was a natural reaction to help, to do what I can,” Resto told the Daily News. “I hope they find this guy. It’s not hard to spot him out.”
Resto sat right across from the man and took a Snapchat video of him. After that, he thought that there was no way he could just sit there and not help the homeless man, who has not been identified yet.
“He was warm for the first time in I don’t know how long,” Resto said. “He just curled up in a corner and went to sleep.”
