Florida State cornerback Jalen Ramsey announced that he’s entering this year’s NFL draft on Tuesday.
Ramsey will skip his senior year at Florida State to enter the draft. Many scouts consider him to be the top defensive back and he is projected to be a top-five pick in the draft, according to the Associated Press. Ramsey informed Florida coach Jimbo Fisher of his decision on Tuesday.
"Today, after having in-depth discussions with my parents, my coaches and others whom I hold dear to my heart, I am announcing my decision to pursue my dream, forgo my senior year of football at Florida State and declare for the 2016 NFL draft," Ramsey said in a statement.
"There are no words to describe how much I have enjoyed my time in Tallahassee, and more specifically here at Florida State. Since the first day I stepped foot on campus, I knew I made the right decision and found my second home. From the war chants and tomahawk chops that send chills shooting down my spine, to running out of the tunnel or being on the track with my teammates, I have found that there is no greater feeling than being a Seminole!"
In 2013 Ramsey become the first Florida State freshman to start at cornerback since Deion Sanders in 1985. Ramsey has played several positions in the defensive backfield but settled at cornerback in his junior year. He played in all 41 games of his college career. In three seasons at Florida he had 180 tackles, 23 pass breakups, and three interceptions, according to ESPN. Ramsey was also a member of the Florida State track team and won an ACC championship in the indoor and outdoor long jump in 2015.
Kicker Roberto Aguayo and defensive end DeMarcus Walker haven’t decided yet if they will skip their senior year and enter the NFL draft. Florida State was 10-3 this past season.
