The popular YouTube series Action Movie Kid is being turned into a feature film.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bad Words scribe Andrew Dodge has been hired to write Action Movie Kid for Fox 2000.
For those unfamiliar, Action Movie Kid is a YouTube series created by visual-effects artist Daniel Hashimoto, who has worked on Dreamworks films such as How to Train Your Dragon. He takes seemingly normal videos of his son James playing make-believe and, with the magic of special effects, turns them into action spectators. If his son was pretending to swing a lightsaber, for example, Hashimoto will use his post-production skills to make it looks like James really is in a scene from Star Wars.
The YouTube series launched in 2014 and has amassed over 150 million views and 440,000 subscribers. This isn't the first time the channel has been adapted into another medium, as Simon & Schuster released a children's book based on the webseries back in May. Hashimoto wrote the book along with Mandy Richardville.
Hashimoto's involvement in the feature film adaptation has not yet been made clear. Since the success of his channel, Hashimoto was hired to direct commercials inspired by the videos for Toys "R" Us. He also worked in the visual effects department on the upcoming Kung Fu Panda 3.
