After getting blasted for leaving out Rey from Star Wars Monopoly, Hasbro will be adding the character to an upcoming edition of the game.
Hasbro issued a statement on Twitter explaining that they are bringing in Daisy Ridley's character to the board game later this year. It's unclear if this is in response to the criticism or if they always planned to release an updated version in 2016.
As we previously reported, the game company was recently bombarded with complaints when it came to fans' attention that Rey, the protagonist of The Force Awakens, was not included in Star Wars Monopoly. Featured instead is Finn, who is arguably not as important of a character as Rey is and so many saw this move as sexist. It spawned the hashtag #WheresRey, calling to mind the #WheresGamora hashtag in response to the lack of Gamora Guardians of the Galaxy toys.
Hasbro said that Rey was left out as to not spoil the fact that she would join the Rebel Alliance in The Force Awakens. The game hit store shelves three months before the film was released.
In addition to adding her to Star Wars Monopoly, Head of Licensing for Lucasfilm Paul Southern told The Daily Beast that more Rey products are on the way and many will be available this month.
