We will likely never see another proper season of Hannibal, but now Hugh Dancy is discussing the direction the show might have gone in had NBC kept it on the air.

In an interview with Collider, the Will Graham actor said that creator Bryan Fuller's season four pitch was something of a return to the first season.

Dancy explained, "It was a complete restart, without describing it — because who knows, God knows, maybe some way we may be able to do it in the future — but it took us back to the first season in a very unexpected way, and made total sense of that cliffhanger ending; it seemed justified."  He also hinted that the idea was brought out from one of the books so it was still within that universe.  Dancy did add that "it wasn’t the Clarice/Silence of the Lambs storyline.”

The fact that Dancy withheld further details is a nice sign that he thinks more Hannibal isn't out of the realm of possibility, and he went on to joke that if he keeps saying a fourth season will happen, then maybe it will actually happen.

Creator Bryan Fuller has previously hinted at the idea of a Hannibal movie in a few years, and Dancy said he and the rest of the cast would all be excited to return in some capacity. However, fans probably shouldn't get their hopes up just yet, as Fuller says any more Hannibal won't happen for at least a few years.

“There’s so many options down the road, but I think the best option right now is to let the show resonate and perhaps approach things in a British way and take some time off then re-approach,” Fuller said.
