To celebrate 20 years, while simultaneously reminding everyone who grew up in the ‘90s that they are that old, The Pokemon Company International will air a commercial during the Super Bowl. The ad was released online today.
The commercial was filmed in Rio de Janeiro and focuses on the international appeal of the monsters. It tells us that we can all Train On and follow our dreams, even if we aren’t a Pokeman Master.
“For 20 years, the Pokémon world has inspired fans to train hard and have fun,” J.C. Smith, senior director of Consumer Marketing at The Pokémon Company International, said in a statement. “This ad is reflective of that passion, and I can’t think of a bigger stage to share this story than the Super Bowl.”
A 30-second version of the commercial, which was created by Los Angeles-based agency Omelet, will air during Super Bowl 50 on Feb. 7. The ad will also be featured during CBS’ Super Bowl’s Greatest Commercials special on Feb. 2 at 8 p.m.
Pokemon is one of the best-selling games in Nintendo’s history, with over 275 million copies of each edition sold worldwide. Pokemon Red and Pokemon Green was released in Japan in 1996.
The Pokemon Company international also set up Pokemon20.com so fans can track celebrations of the special anniversary.
