On this week’s episode of Pretty Little Liars, new details emerge about Charlotte’s death, the PLLs grow suspicious of Aria, and Jordan and Caleb finally meet.
After Charlotte’s funeral, the PLLs sit in the lobby of the Radley and discuss whether or not Sara Harvey could have killed Charlotte out of revenge. The PLLs also question Aria when she announces she’s heading back to Boston so she doesn't miss any more work. They don’t really agree with her leaving early, since they’re all staying and missing work, but they don’t force her to stick around.
Once the girls say their goodbyes, Hanna offers to walk Aria to her car, and spills that she knows Aria left her hotel suite the night of Charlotte’s murder.
Cue opening theme.
Aria claims her phone died and she went to her car to grab her charger, before returning. Hanna says she knows Aria was gone for longer than that, but Aria corrects her, growing defensive. Hanna tells Aria she brought up the issue in private because she didn’t want to mention it in front of Emily and Spencer.
Spencer returns home to find her mother talking with Caleb. A group of bloggers are trying to link the PLLs to Charlotte’s death and Spencer wonders if it would be a mistake to accompany her mother to her interview with the Rosewood Observer the next day. Veronica tries to reassure her daughter that her attendance won’t affect the interview, but Spencer insists the media will keep trying to make her look guilty. Hearing this, Veronica agrees to have Spencer hang back after all. When Spencer is alone with Caleb, she fears that it’ll be her fault if her mother loses the election. Caleb tries to cheer her up by offering to hack the system on election day and give her mother all the votes. Spencer’s glad Caleb’s there.
Ali waits to speak to Rosewood PD and makes eye contact with Sara as she passes by. Later, when Lorenzo talks to Ali, he says Charlotte suffered a broken neck due to blunt force trauma before being thrown from the bell tower. Sara was questioned, but is now off the list; her injuries rule her out. The next approach would be to question Ali’s friends even though Ali doesn’t think they’re involved.
Emily takes a phone call, then brushes her mom off when she asks her if she’d like to accompany her to her father’s grave. Emily says Ali needs her.
Hanna arrives back to her suite and is confused to find a room service delivery in progress. Enter fiancé, Jordan, who flew down from New York to make sure she was okay. Jordan also shares some good news: his uncle has agreed to let him have his estate in the Hamptons for the wedding. Hanna’s very happy to see him.
Aria stops by Ezra’s to “clear the air” before she catches her plane back to Boston. She wants him to deny that they saw each other the night of Charlotte’s death. Ezra obliges.
At the hospital, Emily has her blood drawn and makes conversation with her lab technician. She’s been doing her treatments in Rosewood even though she lives in California now and needs it to work. The tech tells her traveling back and forth isn’t good, because it puts a lot of stress on the body.
Spencer chats with Hanna and Ali in the Hastings’ barn. Spencer mentions updates on Charlotte’s case and Ali finds it weird that Aria left so quickly. She also invites everyone to dinner at the DiLaurentis house.
Aria ignores a call from Ali at work and reunites with Liam in private; they’re keeping their relationship a secret from their boss. They also talk about Ezra, since he’s considering returning his advance.
Emily tries to pay for parking outside the hospital, but her credit card declines. She runs into Sabrina, who helps her out.
Jordan wonders what he and Hanna should bring to Ali’s, while Hanna suggests going home to New York instead. Jordan knows Hanna’s worried about him finally meeting Caleb, so he promises to behave himself.
Meanwhile, Spencer tells Caleb about a case study she used in a paper during college and how details of the case resemble Charlotte’s death. Spencer panics that she’s being set up. Caleb says it’s all a coincidence.
Aria and Liam meet with their boss, Jillian. Jillian isn’t too thrilled to hear that Ezra isn’t in a good place with his second book and wonders if Aria’s to blame because of their prior romantic history. Jillian decides that Liam might be a better person to take over and get Ezra out of his slump.
Emily stops by The Brew and asks Sabrina to keep quiet about running into her outside the hospital. Emily doesn’t want her mom to worry more than she already has. Sabrina promises not to say anything.
Everyone meets at Ali’s. Hanna introduces Jordan to Caleb and the girls help Ali set up for dinner. Ali is upset Aria didn’t show and that no one has heard from her. The girls claim she’s busy.
Aria thinks Jillian is onto her and Liam, although Liam thinks otherwise. He’s all ready to help Ezra out, but Aria says she’s going to convince Jillian to give her another shot to talk to him.
Emily shares that she’s staying in Rosewood for a little longer, Spencer tells Jordan about the time she ran into Caleb in Madrid, and Hanna and Caleb share a somewhat awkward encounter when they look for wine glasses and a bottle opener in Ali’s pantry.
Later, Ali gets an update from Lorenzo regarding Charlotte’s time of death and tensions are palpable during dinner.
Spencer and Hanna converse in private. Ali seems to think Aria is somehow responsible for Charlotte’s death. Hanna admits she heard Aria leave in the middle of the night. Spencer says they need to check the Radley’s security footage.
Emily and Pam talk at The Brew and Pam sees an appointment reminder for Hollis Medical Center flash across Emily’s phone screen. Emily lies, saying she’s interviewing there for grad school. Pam says how proud her dad would be of her. A moment later, Emily sees Aria going up to Ezra’s apartment.
Aria chats with Ezra about her bosses not taking back his advance. She also asks him where he went after he saw her on the night of Charlotte’s death. Ezra claims he came home, though Aria doesn’t seem to believe him.
Caleb tells Spencer not to worry about her paper and its possible connection to Charlotte’s death. They reminisce about Madrid and Caleb tells her he’ll be sticking around to help work on her mom’s campaign. Soon after, Spencer receives a text from Hanna, who has the keys to her mom’s security room at the hotel.
Hanna, Spencer, and Emily review the footage and note that Aria left the hotel at 3:12 with Ezra, but came back alone at 4:28. While things don’t look good, they can’t erase the video. They have to make Aria talk instead.
The girls go to Aria’s and stage an intervention. Aria couldn’t sleep because of what she told the judge, so she met up with Ezra. They walked around town for a bit, spotting Charlotte going into the Rosewood Church. Aria thought about calling the police, but Ezra reminded her of Charlotte’s newfound freedom. He helped her back to her car and then said he went home. Aria’s sure Ezra lied.
Spencer shares details about her paper and how she and Ezra met up for lunch during his book tour. He wanted to write a murder mystery, so Spencer told him about the paper she was working on. Spencer thinks Ezra could’ve killed Charlotte knowing how Aria was scared when she was released. Aria says no one can see the hotel’s security footage.
Veronica reads Spencer’s paper and says she’ll worry about it if and when it becomes an issue. Spencer’s her daughter, not a liability, and she won’t ruin her campaign.
Emily visits her dad’s grave and gets spooked when she notices Sara skulking around.
Aria reads press about Nicole and the other workers trapped in South America, Hanna deletes the security footage, then retires to bed with Liam, Ali tells Lorenzo she thinks her friends may be involved in Charlotte’s death after all, and an anonymous visitor leaves flowers on Charlotte's grave then heads into an awaiting limo.
End of episode.
