Reese Witherspoon commented on the growing controversy over the lack of diversity among this year’s Oscar nominees. The actress, an Oscar winner and member of the Academy herself, said on Facebook that she would like to see the Academy become more diverse.

The Walk The Line star posted a Time Magazine story about the situation on her Facebook page, writing that she was “So disappointed that some of 2015's best films, filmmakers and performances were not recognized.”

“Nothing can diminish the quality of their work, but these filmmakers deserve recognition,” she wrote. “As an Academy member, I would love to see a more diverse voting membership.”

Witherspoon was nominated for her performance in Wild last year. That ceremony also failed to include any black or minority actors among the nominees. That sparked the #OscarsSoWhite Twitter hashtag, which was used again after the 88th Oscar nominations were announced.

Next week, the Academy will reportedly institute changes to help ensure that more diverse films are nominated during a board meeting. Some of the changes reportedly being considered include setting the Best Picture field to a firm 10 nominees and adding more acting nominees.

I really appreciated this article in TIME on the lack of racial and gender diversity in this year's Oscar...
