Ricky Gervais didn’t hold back on celebrities while hosting the Golden Globes on Sunday, with some of his targets including Ben Affleck, Mel Gibson and Matt Damon. But out of all the controversial jokes he made, he’s addressing the one he made about Caitlyn Jenner.

Gervais took to Twitter on Tuesday to dispel the argument that he was being transphobic when joking about Jenner.

“Suggesting a joke about Caitlin Jenner is automatically transphobic is like suggesting a joke about Bill Cosby is automatically racist,” he wrote, which of course prompted Twitter users to respond.

“I f--king love it when you all argue,” he added.

In Gervais’ opening monologue, he said that he has changed but "not as much as Bruce Jenner.” He then went on to pay her compliments but added in a joke about her car crash.

"She became a role model for trans people everywhere, showing great bravery in breaking down barriers and destroying stereotypes,” he continued. “She didn't do a lot for women drivers, but you can't have everything, can ya?"

The comedian then said hosting the Globes has inspired him to get back into stand-up comedy. “Now THAT'S when you're allowed to be offended,” he wrote.
