The Internet is abuzz with talk of Ricky Gervais' meanest jokes from the Golden Globes last night and the comedian might have even more in store next year.

According to Deadline, Gervais has been asked to return for the 74th annual Golden Globe Awards in 2017. He has not yet reached a decision, but if he does accept NBC's offer, this will be his fifth time hosting the show.

The Office star began his journey with the Hollywood Foreign Press in 2009, immediately shocking the room by lobbing insults at some of the industry's biggest actors. Though he comes across as an outsider breaking the rules who might just be yanked off stage at any moment, it has become clear that the network loves the attention Gervais' controversial jokes generate just as much as we love hearing them.

In fact, although the total-viewer estimates won't be released until later today, early reports indicate that last night's broadcast was up in the ratings from 2015's ceremony. However, the most widely-viewed Golden Globes in recent years was in 2014, a night hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

During his opening monologue this year, Gervais himself seemed surprised that he keeps getting invited back in spite of his behavior, at one point exclaiming after a dirty joke, "They asked me to host four times!"
