Sam Champion will briefly return to Good Morning America next week after over a year away from ABC News. Champion will be filling in while Chief Meteorologist Ginger Zee is on maternity leave.
ABC News announced Champion’s return on GMA this morning. The 25-year ABC News veteran will be back on the show Monday.
In December 2013, Champion announced that he was leaving GMA to join The Weather Channel and the NBC team. However, in September, his morning show was cancelled. Champion did tell TheWrap in October that he will host a weekly primetime show on the network. Champion did return to the GMA set in November when the show celebrated its 40th anniversary and hosted an anchor reunion.
Zee’s son, Adrian Benjamin, was born in December. While she’s out, the country will once again hear “That's the weather around the nation, ladies and gentleman.”
