Seth Meyers has solidified his position as Late Night host after Jimmy Fallon took over The Tonight Show and he will get to keep his job. The former Saturday Night Live head writer has had his contract extended through 2011.

“I can’t thank NBC enough for continuing to support our show and this more than makes up for my disappointment in not getting cast in The Wiz,” Meyers said in a statement.

“As a writer, performer and host, Seth has a rich history at NBC and we are thrilled that he’ll be at the helm of Late Night for many more years,” NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt added. “His knowledge of both current events and pop culture is unparalleled and he brings that expertise to Late Night every night. The show couldn’t be in better hands.”

In addition to hosting Late Night, NBC has booked Meyers for a 2016 New Year’s Eve Late Night special.

Like The Tonight Show, Meyers has shown a knack for creating viral videos. He has also become much more comfortable behind the Late Night desk since he decided to ditch the traditional late night standing monologues. Meyers explained how his team puts together the show at New York Comic-Con in October.

Meyers has been a part of the NBC family since 2008, when he joined Saturday Night Live. He took over Late Night in February 2014. The show averaged 1.65 million viewers and a 0.51 rating in the fourth quarter of 2015.
