A Tennessee family who won part of Wednesday night’s record-breaking Powerball jackpot, John and Lisa Robinson and their daughter Tiffany, appeared on the Today Show on Friday to talk about their winnings.
They made the appearance alongside their attorney, Joe Townsend, who was the one to urge them to make a public appearance. Townsend's daughter, Eileen, was there as well.
In addition to giving the rundown on the moment they realized their ticket matched all of the winning numbers, Townsend explained why he thought the family should come forward.
“I think the American public wants to hear from them, and even though they want to be private after this is over, they want the public to know they're the winners,” he said on Today.
John admitted he’s “nervous” that the world knows who he is. "Actually, (I was) a little scared because I didn't know exactly what do to,” he said. “I knew that I wanted to get an accountant. I knew that I wanted to get a lawyer and try to follow the procedures that they tell you to follow."
The Robinsons are one of three winners and will collect $533 million before taxes, and $327.8 million if they decide to take their winnings as a lump sum.
