Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce signed a contract extension with the team on Jan. 29.
According to ESPN, the extension is for five years and $46 million with $20.017 million guaranteed. The deal could reach a maximum value of $50 million.
Kelce becomes the NFL’s second-highest paid tight end, behind Rob Gronkowski of the New England Patriots, who has a six-year deal that is worth $54 million. He is now signed through 2021.
“Today we reached an agreement with Travis and his representatives on a contract extension,” Chiefs general manager John Dorsey said in a statement. “He’s a talented football player that has become an important piece to what we do offensively. Travis is a high-character guy and a leader in our locker room.”
Kelce was drafted by the Chiefs in 2013. He has become one of the primary receiving targets for the Chiefs in the last two seasons. He had 72 receptions for 875 yards and five touchdowns this season, according to the Kansas City Star. Kelce has 139 receptions for 1,373 yards and ten touchdowns in his NFL career.
Kelce is currently in Hawaii, where he’ll play in the Pro Bowl on Sunday, but he will have a busy offseason. As we previously reported, Kelce will be starring in an E! dating series that will air later this year.
The Chiefs were 11-5 this year and made the playoffs but lost to the Patriots in the divisional round.
