Over a year after Showtime first announced that a Twin Peaks revival was going to happen, the network confirmed that it will definitely air in early 2017.
While it has been feared for several months that the return of David Lynch and Mark Frost’s cult series wouldn’t happen during 2016, Showtime Networks President and CEO David Nevins said that the revival will begin during the first quarter of 2017.
Nevins also said Tuesday at the Television Critics Association Press Tour that Lynch is “more than halfway through shooting schedule.”
Many of the show’s original stars, including Kyle MacLachlan and Sherilyn Fenn, will be back, reports TV Line. The site also reported that Lynch regular Laura Dern is joining the show as Agent Cooper’s secretary, who was never shown in the original series.
Twin Peaks originally ran from 1990 to 1991 on ABC and was followed by the movie Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. A teaser was released in December.
