Despite rumors to the contrary, William Shatner will not appear in the new Star Trek film.

In an interview with SFX Magazine, via Games Radar, Shatner denied the rumor of his involvement with Beyond . He said there was never a conversation about him being in the movie.

“It would have been interesting to see what their fertile imaginations could have done with somebody who is 20 years older than when Captain Kirk died and how they would have explained the difference in appearance," Shatner said. "But that never came up. I’m sure they must have thought of it one time or another but I never had a substantial conversation about replaying the role.”

Reports of a Shatner being in the movie popped up in 2014. At the time, it was thought that there would be a scene in which Chris Pine's Captain Kirk meets Shatner's Captain Kirk and Leonard Nimoy's Spock, although this was before Leonard Nimoy's death. Since then, the script has gone through some major changes, with the finished version written by actor Simon Pegg.

Star Trek Beyond hits theaters on July 22.
