TBS has put in a series order for People of Earth, a new series starring comedian Wyatt Cenac and produced by Conan O’Brien.
People Of Earth was created by David Jenkins and the pilot was directed by Greg Daniels (The Office, Parks and Recreation). As Deadline notes, it is produced by O’Brien’s Conaco with Warner Horizon.
Cenac, who was a Daily Show correspondent, stars as a skeptical journalist who joins a support group filled with people who believe that they have seen aliens. Once he starts investigating those claims though, he begins to realize that they might be telling the truth.
The other members of the cast include Ana Gasteyer, Alice Wetterlund, Lua Jones, Brian Huskey, Nancy Lenehan, Tracee Chemo, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Bjorn Gustafsson and Ken Hall.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, TBS has ordered a 10-episode freshman season.
TBS is working hard to change the face of its original comedy line-up. They cancelled all their multi-camera comedies to replace them with single-cam ones, so goodbye laugh track. The reinvigorated TBS line-up will launch on Jan. 17 with a 25-hour marathon of Rashida Jones’ Angie Tribeca.
TBS also has The Detour with former Daily Show correspondent Jason Jones. Samantha Bee (yes, another Daily Show alum) is hosting a late-night talk show called Full Frontal.
