Reactions to the two Hangover sequels were pretty negative overall and the trilogy's star is now being brutally honest about the quality of the later films.

In a recent interview on the WTF with Marc Maron podcast via Screen Crush, Zach Galifianakis said there really should have just been one Hangover.

"Look, that was a good chunk of my life that I do not regret at all but I wished we had just done one," Galifianakis said. "I think leave well enough alone sometimes.”

Based on the box office results, it seems most audiences agree with Galifianakis. Each Hangover film did progressively worse at the domestic box office, with The Hangover Part II grossing $254 million and The Hangover Part III grossing $112 million, according to Box Office Mojo.

Galifianakis joked in the WTF interview about returning to the Hangover franchise one day when his career has dried up, sarcastically quipping that there's a "real appetite out there for more."

In reality, it's pretty clear that the public at large has mostly lost interest in the series.

Zach Galifianakis' new project is the FX comedy Baskets, which airs Thursdays at 10 p.m..
