With just over a month to go until the movie's release, Paramount Pictures has revealed new footage from the mysterious 10 Cloverfield Lane.
The latest ad appeared during the Super Bowl and has since been posted on Paramount Pictures' YouTube account. You'll recall that the initial trailer took place entirely in the bunker, leaving some fans concerned that the main characters would not leave it until the very end. But thankfully, this commercial gives us a glimpse into the outside world: Michelle looks on in terror as a bright light glows behind a house and some sort of creature emits a terrifying roar. At least, it sure sounds like a creature.
The spot also opens with a car crash, which Michelle survives only to wake up in the cellar with a man who supposedly saved her life. The rest of the ad consists of a lot of old footage, but we do briefly see an explosion that clearly is happening outside. This should assuage any fears that the final shot of this trailer is the only scene that takes place outside the bunker.
For weeks, viewers have been debating whether this movie will even have a monster in it, wondering if the marketing is Bad Robot being predictably enigmatic or if Clover never makes an appearance and this is more of a psychological thriller. We still don't have an answer, but after the sound at the end of this trailer, accompanied by the new hashtag #Cloverfield, either it is indeed a monster movie or this will go down as the most misleading marketing in history.
10 Cloverfield Lane stars John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and John Gallagher Jr. It was filmed in secret under the title Valencia and the trailer suddenly dropped just two months away from the March release date. J.J. Abrams has since described it as a "blood relative" to the original Cloverfield, as we previously reported. The film opens on March 11.
