Though I was initially disappointed by The CW’s decision to make us wait until mid-season premieres for the return of The 100, I can definitely say it was worth the wait. “Wanheda” parts one and two were hard-hitting and the perfect set-up for the the show’s third season. “Ye Who Enter Here” was no let down either.
After being turned in by Roan of the Ice Nation, Clarke’s being held prisoner by Lexa, but still refuses to see her. Clearly there’s a grudge still there from their issue at Mount Weather and I can’t quite say I blame her. Lexa’s convinced Clarke’s hating her to avoid hating herself, but she’s trying to get Clarke to push that aside because she wants the Sky People to join her coalition. Lexa wants her to bow before her at a summit she’s called for the Sky People and join forces; Clarke knows this is because the Ice Nation is taking advantage of how Clarke made her look weak at Mount Weather.
At a meeting of all the clans, the Ice Nation is the only clan which refuses to bow before Lexa. Lexa takes it in stride until he starts prodding her about why Clarke is still alive. Lexa invites him to speak in private and swiftly kicks him off the balcony, asking if anyone else would like to question her. The only thing missing from this scene was a“This is Polis!” while she did it.
Back with the Arkers, Kane and Abby are at odds because of Abby’s decision to send people to Mount Weather. They’re trying to get Farm Station back after discovering they were still alive but Abby’s more worried about Clarke.
Bell, Gina, Octavia and Raven are at Mount Weather and Bell is still upset he’s being sidelined in their mission to rescue Clarke after being stabbed by Roan. Though things seem functional, Octavia is still holding a grudge and feeling like an outsider. She quickly bails but the team gets to work. Bellamy follows, however, and it’s nice to see them interact after it felt like Bellamy was separated from the team for such a chunk of season two. Their interaction is cut short, though, when their team pulls up with a grounder they’ve caught. Turns out it’s Echo, who was held by the Mountain Men with Bellamy back in season two, trying to warn the Sky People that the summit is a trap and there’s a murderer there. The team gets into attack mode.
Back in Polis, Clarke and Roan are both still being held captive. He’s trying to strike a deal with Clarke after Lexa fell back on their deal. He’s trying to get Clarke to join in on his mission to kill Lexa by trying to convince her it’s what’s best for her and her people. He’s got a knife ready under her bed when she goes back. However, when Lexa goes to visit her and Clarke has the chance to kill her, she stops short and Clarke suggests a different plan.
In a hidden room, the man from Ice Nation ready to attack the summit is preparing, starting with a blood sacrifice. It’s terrifying and creepy, which is a perfect introduction to the Ice Nation.
In Polis, the Sky People are astounded at how functional the life is on the Earth they thought was abandoned. They’re surrounded by sprawling buildings, “farmer’s” markets, and the kindness of the people. Abby is clearly smitten with how fascinated Kane is by all of this and tries to give him back the Chancellor’s pin but Kane isn’t sure that would be the right choice, especially since they’ve been operating as a team since landing on the ground. Indra greets in an almost terrifyingly friendly manner but denies Abby’s request to see Clarke.
Lexa’s trying to make a coalition and her guard is convinced the Sky People will not join and doesn’t understand why she’s trying so hard to get them in it. He tells her what she already knows: she’s powerful and managed to do what other commanders have not but if she wants the power of Wanheda, he has to kill her.
At Mount Weather, Raven, Gina, and Sinclair are working on stopping the attacker at the summit from the mountain. However, Raven is struggling to get the launch codes for the missiles and Gina goes in search of them.
The Blake siblings and Echo make their way to Polis and find the original team’s lookouts dead. There’s a sign declaring “No Weapons Beyond This Point,” which almost stops them short before Echo takes them through the tunnels. Short of the ladder, there are several guards blocking the entrance and Bellamy and Octavia take them out and head up.
Suddenly, it’s sundown. Abby and Marcus are waiting to see Clarke, who makes her way to them. While Abby wants to catch up, Clarke warns that the Ice Nation is a threat. It’s either become the thirteenth clan or suffer the consequences of war. Abby and Kane aren’t convinced; what’s going to stop the Ice Nation either way? Clarke answers in one word: Wanheda.
At the summit, Clarke in full Wanheda gear is making her way to Lexa and while Bellamy and co desperately rush to them. Clarke bows before Lexa and the ambassadors from Ice Nation are less than pleased, though all ambassadors soon follow Clarke’s suit. Lexa announces that they are now not here to negotiate a treaty but to initiate Clarke and the Sky People as the thirteenth clan of the coalition. However, as Bellamy and Octavia storm the base and take out the guards, Echo has disappeared and it turns out the threat to the Sky People is actually in Mount Weather.
Back at Mount Weather, Raven is struggling and doubting her ability to finish the job. While she’s getting a pep talk from Sinclair, Gina is in the President’s office when the guy from Ice Nation attacks her from behind. He sets a self destruct sequence off and runs, while Gina bravely manages to make it to a radio to warn them. A chase ensues and after a fight, Raven shoots the guy from Ice Nation. She and Sinclair radio back to Gina about the codes but it’s too late; she’s already gone and with time not on their side, Mount Weather destructs, killing everyone inside.
At the summit, they’re confused and betrayed by Echo’s disappearance before Raven manages to radio in what’s happened back at Mount Weather. The Sky People get in motion and start leaving, Bellamy trying to get Clarke to come back with them. Behind her, Lexa argues they need a delegate from their clan to stay behind and despite all the puppy eyes, Bellamy feels betrayed and it’s clear that this is going to cause a rift in their relationship. I’m heartbroken with him, especially knowing about Gina.
Lexa’s people are starting to doubt her. Clarke questions how the grounders knew about the self destruct but Lexa does not know. In private, Lexa vows to treat Clarke’s people like her own and the two make a temporary truce.
We get our answer as we see Echo reappear in front of the Ice Nation’s queen, announcing she’s gotten her war. From the shadows, the soldier Clarke almost killed from Mount Weather appears, glad they’re going to get revenge on Clarke.
The 100 airs Thursdays at 9/8c on The CW.
