10:30 a.m. On a Thursday. Philadelphia, PA
Dennis and Mac have successfully trashed Dee’s apartment. She is so ready for them to move out. Dennis and Mac have a very specific list of needs for their new place. They have an idea of where to move…the suburbs.
The Gang comes to see Dennis and Mac in their new house. Frank bets they won’t make it a month. If they can survive a month, Frank will pay their rent for a year. If they break, Dennis and Mac must share a bed with an old man. An odd bet but they agree to the terms. Survive a month in the burbs. Easy right?
The first night together they spend enjoying Mac’s famous mac & cheese and to celebrate their stress free life in the burbs, they want to have a quiet first night. The night turns out to be restless as they both keep hearing sounds throughout the house (smoke detector, pool cleaner, household noises). The next morning, Dennis suggests Mac take a personal day to fix up the house. Things are slowly getting to Mac and Dennis. They feel too tense.
They meet their annoying neighbor Mr. Schmidt. Dennis finds the commute from the burbs to be very painful. Mac is not very good at household duties. We fast forward to Day 8 in the burbs. Mac and Dennis are acting like a married couple in the burbs. They argue over a guest in the house. They bicker at the dinner table. Dennis provides for them at work while Mac takes care of the house.
Later that night, the noises keep them awake and they decide to feel out Frank on the bet and invite The Gang over for dinner. The Gang arrives, with an old black man in tow. They sit down to dinner and realize they can’t change the bet. Dee makes a side bet involving getting a new queen size bed from Frank. She begs Dennis/Mac not to crack.
Day 16: The burbs have really gotten to them. Dennis tries to calm both of them by giving Mac a chores list and buying Mac a dog. He names the dog Dennis Jr. They only have to make it two more weeks. The same routine is slowly driving them crazy. They miss the city life.
We skip to Mac burying Dennis Jr. The annoying neighbor Mr. Schmidt attempts to have the same usual conversation with them. Dennis finally snaps, cue the horror music and strips completely naked and confronts the neighbor. An unusual and hilarious part of the episode. Dennis snaps out of his daydream. He has completely lost his mind.
They sit down to their usual mac and cheese dinner where Mac complains that Dennis is only looking out for himself and doesn’t care about him. Dennis has completely snapped and is horrified when he finds out that Mac cooked Dennis Jr. and put him in the mac and cheese! Things are escalating quickly when a knock at the door stops them. Dennis is prepared to fight Mr. Schmidt when we see it’s The Gang!
They surprise them and Frank hands them a check for free rent for the next year. The catch…it is at the burbs house! Frank counts down the final seconds and we skip ahead to Dee, Dennis and Mac sleeping in their new bed with the old black man. They lost the bet and now must sleep with the old man.
