Captain America: Civil War hits theaters in less than three months and Anthony Mackie has just offered some fascinating new information about the film.
In an interview with Empire, the Falcon actor said that Civil War isn't just an action spectacular. Instead, he referred to it as a true suspense thriller.
"The build-up to the fight is what makes it so interesting because there are so many different factions of who’s right and who’s wrong and who supports who," Mackie said. "Once we get all of that out the way, then it becomes more action-packed and more of us kicking each others’ ass."
He went on to say that the fighting doesn't fully kick in for a bit, as it's important to establish each characters' motivation so that the audience is fully invested.
"What Marvel is very good at doing is making these stories about characters and story and then layering action on top of that," Mackie said. "And this holds true to that."
Civil War features the Avengers characters we know and love engaged in an internal feud. This fight is in regards to disagreements over the Sokovia Accords, the government's attempt to regulate superheroes and keep them from causing destruction, as well as disagreements over what to do about Bucky Barnes.
On one side of the battle we have Captain America (Chris Evans), the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and the Falcon (Anthony Mackie). On the other side we have Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Vision (Paul Bettany), War Machine (Don Cheadle) and Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman). It's unclear where Spider-Man fits in, but based on some of Tom Holland's previous comments, it sounds like the character's role will not be very significant.
Captain America: Civil War hits theaters on May 6.
