Cara McCollum, Miss New Jersey 2013 and news anchor for SNJ Today News, has died after a car crash last week.

As previously reported, the 24-year-old McCollum was driving a 2014 Ford Mustang on Route 55 when she went off the side of the road and hit a tree on Feb. 15. The vehicle hit two more trees before she stopped. She was the only person in the vehicle and was wearing a seatbelt.

After the accident, she was rushed to Cooper Health Systems. Unfortunately, she never recovered from her injuries and died early today. Her death was announced by her colleagues on the SNJ Today Facebook page.

“The entire SNJ Today family extends its condolences to the many loyal viewers, colleagues, friends and family of Cara McCollum,” a statement from the station read. “Whether you had the privilege of knowing her or if you enjoyed her newscasts during her all too brief time with us, you know that her smile, determination and sincerity made her a beloved individual.”

The station sent their condolences to her parents, Rick and Maureen McCollum; her brother Derick McCollum; and her boyfriend, Keith Jones.

The Prayers for Cara Facebook page noted that McCollum donated her organs before her death. Her family was with her in the hospital.
