Stephen Colbert had one of first awkward interviews last night with Casey Affleck. The Triple 9 star really didn’t like the Late Show host criticizing his casual attire.

After exchanging pleasantries, Colbert joked, “Thanks for dressing up,” to the tie-less Affleck.

“I can’t tell if this choice is the least celebrity thing to do or the most celebrity thing to do,” Colbert continued.

Affleck tried to look like he was taking it as a joke. “Thank you... yeah, you look great,” the actor replied.

“I’m not saying you don’t look good,” Colbert said.

Affleck started to say, “No...” and then suggested that Colbert thought he was being rude.

“No, I’m not saying that at all,” Colbert replied.

Colbert called this “just some playful ribbing,” and then the two went back and forth over the mug. But Colbert went back to Affleck’s attire for some reason and the actor clearly had enough at that point. Eventually, Colbert got to his joke, which was to say that Affleck looked like a “street-corner Jesus.”

At least Affleck laughed at that and the tension eased for the rest of the interview.

Triple 9 opens this weekend.
