The showrunners behind The Colony have just joined Dwayne Johnson's latest disaster film.
According to Variety, Carlton Cuse and Ryan Condal are set to rewrite Rampage, New Line Cinema's movie based on the popular video game series. Ryan Engle (Non-Stop) wrote the earlier draft, as we previously reported.
We don't know much about the plot yet, but the video game series follows a group of monsters - specifically a giant gorilla, lizard and wolf - as they wreak havoc on a city, Godzilla style. It began as an arcade game, but also received several console sequels, including Rampage 2: Universal Tour on the Nintendo 64 and Rampage: Total Destruction on the Nintendo Wii.
Rampage will star Johnson and will be directed by Brad Peyton, who has previously teamed up with The Rock on the surprise hit San Andreas. That film was also written by Cuse, so Rampage will be something of a San Andreas reunion.
The Colony, created by Cuse and Condal, has been doing rather well on the USA Network thus far, with the premiere episode drawing about 1.3 million viewers, according to TV by the Numbers. Cuse has produced shows like Lost and Bates Motel, with San Andreas being his first major venture into film. Condal has a bit more experience writing big budget movies, as he worked on the screenplay for yet another Dwayne Johnson flick, Hercules.
