The Colorado Avalanche acquired forward Mikkel Boedker in a trade with the Arizona Coyotes on Monday.
According to ESPN, the Coyotes will get forwards Conner Bleackley and Alex Tanguay, as well as defenseman Kyle Wood, in the trade. Boedker will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. Negotiations on a contract extension had reached an impasse. The trade was considered to be a foregone conclusion after the Flames lost five straight games.
"It's very exciting, an exciting team, played against them a lot," Boedker told TSN.
Boedker was drafted by the Coyotes in 2008. He has 13 goals, 26 assists and 39 points this season, according to Fox Sports. In 445 career games he has 80 goals, 133 assists and 213 points. Tanguay has four goals and 18 assists this season with the Avalanche. Bleackley has 13 goals and 28 assists with the Red Deer Rebels of the WHL. Wood has eight goals and 27 assists for the North Bay Battalion in the OHL.
In addition to Boedker, the Avalanche also got defenseman Eric Gelinas from the New Jersey Devils. Gelinas has one goal and five assists this season.
The Avalanche have the second wild card in the Western Conference, two points ahead of the Minnesota Wild. The Coyotes are 27-29-6.
