Deadpool was recently screened for critics, but there's still one key sequence nobody has seen yet.

Screenwriter Rhett Reese recently revealed on Twitter that there's a second post-credits scene in Deadpool that was left out of press screenings in order to maintain the surprise. Members of the press did get to see one of the two end-credits scenes, but the one shown is completely for comedic purposes like The Avengers' shawarma gag.

So what could this second scene be? It will likely feature some sort of connection to upcoming X-Men movies, as Deadpool takes place in the same universe as that franchise. Though tying things in to X-Men: Apocalypse will be difficult since that film is set 30 years prior to Deadpool, perhaps there might be a tie-in to Gambit or even The Wolverine.

Whatever it is, it sounds like it's something fairly big. Reese told Screen Rant a few months ago that what they had in mind was going to "require some doing." That suggests it's more significant than a simple setup for Deadpool 2, and perhaps there was difficulty finding time in another actor's schedule. Could we get our first glimpse at Channing Tatum as Gambit this weekend?

The film has received fairly positive reviews so far, and it currently holds an 85 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes. Hopefully the movie is financially successful; 20th Century Fox really needs a hit after the complete failure of Fantastic Four last summer. The fact that it is R-rated, thus turning away a significant portion of the demographic, might spell trouble for the studio.

Deadpool opens on Feb. 12.
