Film director Duncan Jones, the son of David Bowie, wasn’t too happy or impressed with Lady Gaga’s tribute to his late father during the Grammys. Jones posted a rather thinly veiled critique of the performance.
Gaga performed a sting of Bowie hits, crammed into a six-minute block, during the ceremony on Feb. 15 as she wore several Bowie-inspired outfits. The tribute was put together in collaboration with producer Nile Rodgers, whose work with Bowie included “Let’s Dance.” That song, as well as “Ziggy Stardust,” “Suffragette City,” “Space Oddity” and more were included in the medley.
During the broadcast, Jones sounded like he wasn’t too happy with Gaga’s enthusiastic performance. He posted the dictionary definition of the word “gaga.”
“‘Overexcited or irrational, typically as a result of infatuation or excessive enthusiasm; mentally confused.’ Damn it! What IS that word!?” Jones wrote.
Bowie died on Jan. 10 after a battle with cancer. He was 69.
Jones is the director of Moon, Source Code and the upcoming Warcraft.
