Eliot Spitzer, the disgraced former New York Governor, is reportedly being investigated by the New York Police Department for allegedly choking a woman during a fight at The Plaza hotel.
The alleged incident took place on Feb. 13. Law enforcement sources told the New York Post that police were called to the hotel by Svetlana Travis, who called 911. The 25-year-old had told police that she cut her wrists and was having a “breakdown.”
However, Spitzer answered the door to the $1,000-a-night suite. He told them that “everything’s fine,” according to the Post’s sources. While the officers left, 911 called Travis back and she told the dispatchers that she did not need help any longer.
The officers still went back to check, just in case. Travis did leave the room and Spitzer opened the door. This time, police saw broken class, clothing on the floor and even bloodstains. They went in and found Travis back in the room. Police called for an ambulance and took her to Mount Sinai West Hospital. Travis told hospital staff that Spitzer attacked her.
Police are now investigating the incident.
Spitzer spokeswoman Lisa Linden told ABC News that “there is no truth to the allegation.”
Spitzer was elected Governor of New York in 2006, but was forced to resign two years later after he was linked to a prostitution operation.
