After the success of Grease Live, Fox would naturally try to figure out how to turn other shows into live events. They now have a plan for one, and it’s not the show you’d expect. Somehow, Al Jean and his team will make a live The Simpsons episode.
The network announced Tuesday that Homer will answer comments from fans on Twitter live during East and West Coast broadcasts on Sunday, May 15 at 8 p.m. Fans can submit questions for Homer to answer on Twitter using the hashtag #HomerLive between Sunday, May 1 and Wednesday, May 4.
How on earth will this work, especially with The Simpsons being animated? Jean, the show’s executive producer, told TheWrap that they will have Homer voice actor Dan Castellaneta wearing motion capture technology as he improvises answers to the Twitter questions. Jean said that they will find ways to hide surprises that will prove to the audiences that they are seeing a live animated character.
Jean and some of The Simpsons writers will be in a booth by Castellaneta to offer him new, more up-to-date jokes during the broadcast.
The Simpsons is currently in its 27th season.
