Katie May, a model who reached success on Snapchat and appeared in Playboy, tragically died on Feb. 4 after suffering a stroke earlier in the week. She was only 34.
May suffered a stroke on Feb. 1 due to a blockage in her carotid artery, reports TMZ. She was in critical condition until she was taken off life support on Feb. 4. She died in Los Angeles, surrounded by her family.
“It is with heavy hearts that we confirm the passing today of Katie May – mother, daughter, sister, friend, businesswoman, model and social media star – after suffering a catastrophic stroke caused by a blocked carotid artery on Monday,” her family said in a statement to People.
Her family asked for privacy and set up a GoFundMe page to help raise funds for her seven-year-old daughter Mia. So far, the page has raised over $10,000.
May was known as the “Queen of Snapchat” and had almost 2 million followers on Instagram. Her social media fame lead to photo shoots for magazines, including Playboy and GQ. She posted her final photo on Feb. 1, writing, “️Hope everyone is having a great Monday! It's very windy here today in LA.” Prior to her social media success, May was a public relations representative.
