It. Happened. After years and years of nominations and losses, Leonardo DiCaprio finally won the Oscar for Best Actor for his role in The Revenant.
The actor received a standing ovation as he went to the stage to receive his award. In his acceptance speech, he talked about the film.
"Climate change is real. It is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species," DiCaprio said. "And we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating."
He closed his speech by saying, "Let us not take this planet for granted. I do not take tonight for granted."
DiCaprio's friend and former Titanic co-star Kate Winslet was visibly emotional during his speech.
This was DiCaprio's fourth Best Actor nomination. He was previously nominated in the Best Actor category for The Aviator, Blood Diamond and The Wolf of Wall Street. He also received a nod for Best Supporting Actor for What's Eating Gilbert Grape and as a producer for The Wolf of Wall Street when the film was nominated for the Best Picture award.
