Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence are the most well-known stars up for Oscars this weekend, so it’s no surprise that they are also the highest-paid talent up for Best Actor and Best Actress.
DiCaprio was paid $29 million between June 2014 and June 2015, while he was making The Revenant. True the film didn’t hit theaters until Dec. 25 (and didn’t go nationwide until Jan. 8, 2016), but Forbes notes that he did earn upfront compensation from the movie. The actor has also earned from his past movies and a Tag Heuer endorsement.
The only other actor in the Best Actor field that comes close to DiCaprio is The Martian’s Matt Damon. He earned $25 million last year.
In the Best Actress field, Forbes pointed out that Lawrence is far ahead with $52 million from the past year. She’s up for Joy and is the only member of the Best Actress field who headlined a franchise. Thanks to The Hunger Games, upfront profits from Joy and her Dior contract, she earned even more than DiCaprio.
However, Lawrence is the only actress nominated in either Supporting or Lead to earn more than $6 million (which is the estimated entire budget of Best Picture nominee Room).
DiCaprio is widely expected to win Best Actor on Feb. 28, especially after he won the Screen Actors Guild Award and Golden Globe. Lawrence isn’t expected to be as victorious, since Room’s Brie Larson has swept the awards season. Lawrence does have a Golden Globe for Joy and an Oscar for Silver Linings Playbook.
Robert Downey Jr. was the highest paid actor of 2015 with $80 million.
