Actor Matt LeBlanc has been chosen to co-host the new iteration of the long-running BBC show Top Gear with Chris Evans.
The BBC announced that the former Friends star will be the first ever non-British host for the U.K. version of Top Gear.
“As a car nut and a massive fan of Top Gear, I'm honoured and excited to be a part of this iconic show's new chapter,” LeBlanc said in a statement. “What a thrill!”
“Acting out our craziest car notions on screen is a dream job and I know we'll both be debating some epic road trip ideas,” Evans said. “We can't wait to share what we've been up to on screen later this year.”
LeBlanc previously appeared on Top Gear twice and hosted the online special Top Gear: The Races.
Evans was picked to host Top Gear last year after Jeremy Clarkson was ousted following an incident with a producer. Clarkson’s co-hosts followed him out the door, forcing the BBC to reconfigure the beloved car show.
LeBlanc will strengthen the show’s appeal in the U.S. as a former Friends star, but he is also well-known to U.K. audiences as a co-star on Episodes. That show, which earned him a Golden Globe in 2012, airs on BBC Two in the U.K. and Showtime in the U.S.
