The highly-anticipated Friends reunion played out during the Feb. 21 broadcast honoring director James Burrows, and although Matthew Perry couldn’t physically make it there, he still played a small part.

As we previously reported, Perry couldn’t make the reunion due to prior work commitments, but he did still make an appearance by introducing the cast – Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Davis Schwimmer and Matt LeBlanc.

Perry appeared in a taped message ahead of the cast walking onstage hand in hand, explaining why he couldn’t make the reunion. "Now please welcome my friends, who happen to be the cast of Friends,” he said.

Topics the cast discussed were getting along in real life, and being thankful for Burrows for his guidance and creative input on the show and whether or not they signed a contract that they couldn't sleep together (they didn't).

"At the beginning it was not a hard thing, we really just wanted to hang out with each other, it was not 'ugh we have to do this'," Aniston said. "We just really fell in love and adored each other instantly and would hang out at each other’s houses and watch the show together."
