If you want chicken for breakfast, your options are limited, especially if you don’t live in the Southeast. But that could change soon if a new menu item from McDonald’s succeeds in Ohio.

A group of McDonald’s in Central Ohio are currently testing the Chicken McGriddle, a change on the pancake sandwich that usually has sausage or eggs and cheese in the middle. Columbia Business First reports that this version has a fried chicken patty in the middle instead.

“Filet-o-fish, Big Mac – both of those started with owner-operators,” Brian Mortellaro, who owns eight Ohio McDonald’s, told the site. “We took this idea up the chain and they’re letting us try it out.”

Mortellaro said that the local test group also tried some other options, including a BLT sandwich with egg-whites. But the Chicken McGriddle came out on top. The restaurants will sell it for $1.49 and $2 to see how much customers are willing to pay for it.

The sandwich is now available at three McDonald’s in Columbus, one in Heath, one in Johnstown, two in Pataskala and four in Newark.

Fast food chains are really ramping up the oddball offerings, at least in the U.S. In Japan, McDonald’s recently unveiled chocolate-covered french fries.
