Melissa McCarthy ended days of speculation on Twitter by confirming that she will not be in Netflix’s revival of Gilmore Girls.
In an answer to a fan on Twitter, McCarthy revealed that no one asked her to reprise her role as Sookie St. James.
“Thanks for the invite, but sadly no one asked me or Sookie to come back to Stars Hollow,” she wrote. “Wish them all the best!!”
This isn’t completely surprising news. Earlier this week, creator Amy Sherman-Palladino said that McCarthy is “really f***ing busy” and wouldn’t be able to do that. If McCarthy became available, she’d write a scene for the Ghostbusters star.
The Gilmore Girls revival was confirmed on Jan. 29. It is expected to only run four, 90-minute episodes. Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel are both expected to return.
You can’t be blamed for thinking that McCarthy would find time for Gilmore Girls, especially after Mike & Molly was cancelled. But she just has too much work to do on the movie side. Her next film, The Boss, hits theaters on April 8 and she stars in the new Ghostbusters, which opens on July 15.
