One week after his wife Ingrid was killed in a car crash, Monty Williams spoke at her funeral about the ability to forgive as he has done for the driver that hit her.
Williams showed immense strength and composure as he asked that prayers be sent up for the family of the other woman who also died in the crash.
“We have no ill will toward that family. In my house, we have a sign that says, ‘As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.’ We cannot serve the Lord if we don’t have a heart of forgiveness,” Williams told those in attendance. “That family didn’t wake up wanting to hurt my wife.”
As we previously reported, Williams was critically injured when a vehicle driven by Susannah Donaldson, crossed the center line while traveling at a high rate of speed on a Oklahoma City roadway and hit her head on.
Ingrid Williams died from those injuries on Feb. 10. Donaldson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Monty Williams was previously the head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans and currently is an associate coach for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Members of both teams as well as the Los Angeles Clippers and San Antonio Spurs attended the funeral.
