The wife of former NBA player and current Oklahoma City Thunder associate coach Monty Williams, passed away on Feb. 10 due to injuries she sustained in a car accident. She was 44.
The team released a statement via social media revealing the tragic news that Ingrid Williams had died after being involved in a car crash one day earlier.
ESPN reported that Williams was critically injured when another vehicle crossed over the center lane and hit her SUV head on. She was transported to a local hospital at the time and the other motorist was pronounced dead at the scene.
Before joining the Thunder, Monty Williams was the head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans. That team also released a statement expressing their sadness over his wife’s death.
"The New Orleans Pelicans are devastated to hear the news of Ingrid Williams' passing," the statement read. "Ingrid was beloved by the Pelicans organization and the New Orleans community and will forever be remembered as one of the most generous, kind and humble individuals we've ever known. Our thoughts and prayers are with Monty Williams and his family during this difficult time."
Multiple NBA players took to Twitter to express their condolences for the Williams family as well.
In addition to her husband, Ingrid leaves behind five children ranging in age from 5 to 17.
